Success for New Zealand hemp “will depend on price”

Posted on July 31, 2000

Canterbury, New Zealand — The success of New Zealand grown industrial hemp as an insulation material will depend on its price, says a supporter of moves to allow the crop to be grown here.

Lindsay Newton, whose firm New Wool Products has used imported hemp in its insulation materials, said he was pleased to hear of Government movement towards the approval of New Zealand hemp trials. He said that even if the trials could go ahead in the coming season, it would still be some time before the suitability of New Zealand grown hemp to his business was known.
