Panel topics have been selected for the upcoming fourth annual Santa Cruz Industrial Hemp Expo. The 2001 Expo is Saturday and Sunday, May 12 and 13, 10am to 6pm at the Civic Auditorium in Santa Cruz, California.

2nd industrial hemp bill passes House
Less than two months after Gov. George Ryan vetoed a proposed study of industrial hemp, supporters pushed a new version of the legislation through the Illinois House. The proposal, which advanced to the Senate on a 72-43 vote, was revised in hopes of addressing concerns that have kept the study from taking root. In vetoing the earlier bill, the governor expressed concern that supporting hemp might send a mixed message to youth because the crop is closely related to marijuana.

Governor vetoes hemp study plan
Arizonas state universities wont be studying hemp at least not while Jane Hull is governor. Hull vetoed legislation Wednesday that would have allowed but not required the states three universities to study whether it makes economic sense to try to grow the less psychoactive version of cannabis in Arizona.

Greenpeace co-founder decries ecologically unsound claims
Greenpeace co-founder Patrick Moore said Thursday that the environmentalist claims promoted by his former organization and others like it are contrary to sound ecological principles. Moore, who left Greenpeace several years ago and recently published a book entitled, Green Spirit: Trees Are the Answer said deforestation does not have the detrimental outcomes some environmentalists say it does.
