  1. HFA position regarding DEA’s Interim Rule
It is the position of the Hemp Food Association (HFA) that this Interim Rule is merely a clarification of the basis under which the DEA, US Customs, and all responsible hempseed importers have been operating under for quite some time, namely, that hempseed products may not contain tetrahydrocannabinol (THC). An HFA survey of hempseed importers revealed that all were in full compliance with the Interim Rule, and have no THC in their products.

  2. Hail the mighty hemp
Chances are that someday this newspaper you are reading will be partly made of hemp or flax or wheat straw. At least if Wade Chute has his way. Chute is a research engineer at the Alberta Research Council, and he’s certain that a blend of wood fibre and so-called agri-fibres is going to become widely used in newsprint manufacture. Chute is especially high on hemp, but definitely not in the way that marijuana smokers are affected by this plant.

  3. Harrelson Helps Hemp Get Its Day in Court
On the recommendation of Cockrel’s principal, Shelby County Schools Superintendent Leon Mooneyman fired Cockrel on July 15, 1997, citing “insubordination, conduct unbecoming a teacher, inefficiency, incompetency, and neglect of duty.” On June 4, 1998, Cockrel sued, claiming that she was fired in violation of her First Amendment free speech right to discuss the potential environmental benefits of hemp. But Cockrel may get her trial after all. On Nov. 9, the 6th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals reversed the Kentucky court and remanded the case for trial.

In our Town Hall Community Center there are four tools useful for cannabis supporters, activists and the general public.

The Australia New Zealand Food Authority (ANZFA) on Wednesday invited public comment on a number of proposed changes to the Food Standards Code, including the use of industrial hemp as a novel food, enforcement levels for two antibiotics in cattle milk, use of a marine micro-algae as a novel food ingredient and a genetically modified corn.

  6. Hemp food ban hits here
On February 6, it will be illegal to sell or import hemp-containing foods, under a new rule of the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA). The foods are being banned for import or sale because they contain traces of THC, the primary active constituent of marijuana.

  7. Hemp-based products bring family together
A home basement business that makes lip balm and other skin care products derived from hemp has reunited a family of four in Waterville, putting them in touch with their back-to-the-land roots. The Maine Intellihemp Co. reflects environmental concerns and interest in medicinal herbs shown by Howard and Stephanie Pruzansky and their sons Seth, 26, and Davy, 24, who are together at home for the first time in years. “This has brought us together as a family. We’re really close now,” said Seth Leaf, who does not use the family’s last name.

  8. Hemp-product seller goes to bat against DEA rules
A Lancaster County businessman who sells hemp pretzels will hand out samples to Drug Enforcement Agency workers as they break for lunch today at their federal office building in Philadelphia. Shawn Patrick House, who operates Lancaster Trading House, said Monday he will also hold a press conference at the downtown Philadelphia site to protest action by the DEA that has effectively outlawed hemp food products. The hemp products sometimes contain THC, the active ingredient in marijuana. His protest is part of a nationwide effort organized by the Hemp Industries Association in more than 80 cities.

The company successfully co-operated with 8 different local businesses to supply a wealth of hemp foods and facts to an early morning audience on The New Day morning show hosted by Vancouver Island television personality Bruce Williams.

  10. Hempseed oil does a power of good
Isobel Darvill was only eight months old when she developed the skin condition eczema. Soon, her body was covered in weeping red sores. In despair, Sarah finally turned to an alternative treatment recommended by a friend — regular doses of hempseed oil.
