Hemp bill heads to Ryans desk
If the governor approves, Illinois universities will study industrial hemp and its potential as an alternative crop. Tuesday, the Illinois House 67-47 approved a Senate bill calling for the study by the University of Illinois and Southern Illinois University. Police groups opposed the legislation. It awaits Gov. George Ryans signature.

A state legislative committee decided Friday that South Dakota farmers shouldnt grow industrial hemp. Members of the Senate State Affairs Committee said they worry that law enforcement would have trouble distinguishing hemp plants from marijuana.

Hemp legalization delayed
