Ag scores big as Illinois general assembly session closes
This bill authorizes the University of Illinois to study the feasibility and desirability of industrial hemp production in Illinois. The bill also removes research hemp from prohibitions under the Cannabis Control Act. A similar bill failed to pass the Governoržs desk last year, but this yearžs bill is modified slightly. The bill also requires that Western Illinois University study the impact on law enforcement. It has passed and awaits the Governoržs signature.

As a special treat for competitors and spectators, delicious pancakes made from protein rich HEMPOLA hempseed flour will be dished out as part of HEMPOLAs on-going drive to raise funds for Team Hardwood, a non-profit cycling club directly linked to the National Development Centre.

FCCs new mandate official
The Farm Credit Corp. has a new name and a new expanded mandate, thanks to legislative amendments approved by Parliament. Farm Credit Canada now has the mandate to lend money to farm-related businesses, even if farmers do not own them. It also can become involved in venture capital operations and leasing.

Glenwoods ambassador of hemp
Glenwood Springs isnt the center of Americas hemp industry, but thanks to Barbara Filippone, the city is spinning in a pretty tight orbit. Filippone is a partner and director of international trade for the Spokane-based Earthgoods LLC, a leading industrial hemp textile designer and importer. Among her many accomplishments, Filippone has worked over the past two years to create industrial hemp quality standards, which are now recognized across the United States.

Hemp cars could be wave of the future
Researchers in Australia and England are working on developing materials from plants like hemp and elephant grass to replace plastic and metal-based car components. Scientists say the materials are biodegradable and can increase fuel efficiency since they weigh about 30 percent less than currently used materials.
