Hemp farming in the province officially cracked to nod yesterday when R500,000 worth of farming equipment was handed over by the Department of Agriculture. Agriculture and Land Affairs MEC Max Mamase personally handed over the equipment to three different hemp farming projects in front of a crowd of 3,000 festive farmers and local leaders at Dininkosi village near Libode.

  3. Hemp foods contain no detectable THC
The hemp industry has responsibly addressed all psychoactive health and drug-testing issues with a wide margin of safety (see the TestPledge.com program). We need to let Congress know that the DEA’s actions are wrong and educate them about the benefits of hemp foods. Please take a moment to write your Senators and Congressperson today by visiting Votehemp.com/action.html and clicking on the “Send a Pre-written Fax” link.

  4. Hemp policy absurd
U.S. government law enforcement agents twice recently invaded a sovereign nation and terrorized and stole from a farmer-citizen of that nation, then fled back across the border to the safety of their courts and armed services. They filed no charges. No crime has been formally alleged. In the context of a less absurd set of circumstances, such an action would be beyond outrageous. It would be in the realm of actions the U.S. regularly criticizes when performed by governments in “less free” nations.

While British Columbia’s forest industry is mired in the worst slump in years, Brian Johnson of Victoria offers an alternative to make up for the dwindling forestry revenues. Johnson sees hemp as a viable product that can relieve British Columbia at least in part of its traditional reliance on trees. To that end, proposes to build an industrial park and eco village in Duncan on Vancouver Island.

  7. Industrial hemp isn’t worth the trouble
In the past few months, there has been a lot of talk about the push for legalization of industrial hemp. In my search for information, whether it be through the Internet or other resources, I have found numerous arguments for the legalization and very few against. I recently received a handout that sums up the opposition to legalization of hemp very nicely and I would like to pass that information along to you.

  8. Keep your foot on the grass: Hemp Car touts alternative fuel
Exhaust from a car that burns hemp oil doesn’t have the smell of a smoldering, fat-rolled joint. It has the greasy smell of cooking oil — burning cooking oil, to be exact. And the Hemp Car purring its way down 14th Street NW smells like a small kitchen fire on wheels.

  9. Makers of hemp products to fight DEA
Federal drug enforcement officials are proposing new regulations that would outlaw food and body-care products that contain hemp. Hemp products are sold in Hawai’i through major retail chains such as The Body Shop, which offers hemp-based soaps and lotions, and smaller stores like Hemp House in Pa’ia, Maui.

  10. National television network reports on the health benefits of hemp food
Jennifer Tryon, Food Reporter for CTV states, “hemp oil comes from harvesting hemp seeds. They contain the perfect balance of Omega 3 and Omega 6 essential fatty acids scarcely found in other foods. It’s also high in the same protein that’s found in eggs. These seeds will be pressed into a drum of hemp oil and hemp flour to be used in salad dressings, pancake mix, pasta... there’s even hemp ice cream.” Visuals for the broadcast were shot at Hempola Valley Farms in early September, 2001.
