  4. Prize for ice cream made from healing hemp
    An organic food company has won an award for its hemp ice cream. The Natural Products Industry Awards chose MotherHemp of Firle, near Lewes, for its Best Organic Product 2002 title. The accolade was presented to marketing manager Sarah Yearsley by Olympic gold medalist Sally Gunnell. The firm also received an award from Craig Sams, chairman of the Soil Association.

    “We kicked off the petition drive by planting hemp seeds at the Custer County Court House a year ago. We’ll end it by planting hemp seeds at the state capitol building in Pierre.”

  6. Soybeans find new market as biodiesel fuel
    Soy biodiesel is good for diesel engines. Fuel made from soybeans is kinder to the environment than petroleum, and, with each year’s crop, it’s 100 percent renewable. Soy biodiesel could some day help move the petroleum monopoly away from the Middle East and into the hands of American farmers. It was unavailable in Virginia until a few weeks ago, when Noblett Oil and Propane in Kilmarnock began selling it to owners of diesel-powered vehicles.

  7. What if we planted hemp and nobody cared?
    The group, representing the South Dakota Industrial Hemp Council, adjourned to the base of the Capitol steps facing Capitol Avenue in Pierre. There, in a long, narrow flower bed about 20 feet from the base of the steps, the group planted more than 500 hemp seeds. Although SDIHC had notified both law enforcement and the press of its intentions, there were no representatives of either law enforcement or the press at the scene.
