Ecofibre looks to commercial hemp trials
A Brisbane company looking to make a multi-million dollar investment in the industrial hemp industry hopes to start commercial trials of the crop this month. Ecofibre Industries wants to test growing conditions throughout Queensland before selecting one or two sites to grow the crop, eventually producing up to 60,000 tonnes of industrial hemp a year.

German-ARC deal would turn straw into car brakes, textiles
A delegation of German officials were in Edmonton on Monday signing an agreement with Alberta Research Council calling for a mutual transfer of technology. The Natural Fibre Association, Brandenburg and ARC will jointly study ways to add local straw, flax and hemp fibres to a wide range of everyday products.

HIA Convention Report
The 9th Annual HIA Convention held in Washington DC was a triple play event. Meeting with industry leaders is always inspiring and motivating. Hemp Lobby Day was interesting and intense due to the tenor of Capitol Hill as our representatives debated waging war on Iraq. Displaying hemp foods and body care products at the Natural Products Expo was great for business and public relations. Exhibitors and buyers were excited about the HIA being there in the Organic Marketplace.
