Hemp Industries Association 2003 Convention Report
Gathering at Kiza Park on the Pine Ridge Reservation in South Dakota, fifty hemp entrepreneurs and activists were welcomed by the White Plume family to their Lakota cultural center. We came with intent to support sovereignty for all people, and specifically for this tribe whose laws allow industrial hemp cultivation (one of sixteen in the USA). Alex and Debra White Plumes family was terrorized by the DEA three years ago and today they continue to fight for the right to grow a plant that can feed, clothe, and house their family.

Hemp industry alive and well at Expo East 2003

Interest in hemp trial on Taieri Plain Invermay land

Invermay rejects growing hemp
Hemp is too hot to handle, according to Invermays Crop and Food scientists. However, Invermay Crop and Food research leader Dr Bruce Smallfield said yesterday growing trial crops on Invermay land would risk unwanted attention.

Parliament rejects hemp bill
A bid by Green Party MP Nandor Tanczos to legalise industrial hemp was doomed to failure yesterday, after a select committee recommended Parliament not support his members Bill. Industrial hemp would have been removed from the Misuse of Drugs Act under the Misuse of Drugs (Industrial Hemp) Amendment Bill, sponsored by the Green MP.

Prairieland Park Exhibition
The Hemp Lady has set up an exhibit at the trade centre for the first time this year. Linda Robinson and her husband Chris have only been selling hemp-oil products for 18 months, but already they are sold in 70 retail outlets in Western Canada. The Robinsons grow hemp in Carberry, Manitoba, and have developed skin and hair-care products with a chemist in Winnipeg.
