Cheba Hut

“Toasted” Subs

Kristen Browning-Blas, Denver Post

[Excerpted]

A sandwich shop “where the only thing fried is an occasional customer,” Cheba Hut caters to the college crowd but serves freshly made warm subs to anyone with the munchies. The menu and the restaurant are full of wink-wink references to Cheech and Chong’s favorite herb (not oregano). Sandwiches come in three sizes: 4-inch “nugs,” 8-inch “pinners” and 12-inch “blunts.” The Jamaican Red ($2.79-$6.89) spikes it up with grilled chicken and jalapeños. The Griefo ($2.69-$6.79) combines hemp-seed cream cheese, guacamole, sprouts and cucumbers. Salads ($2.50-$6.49) use “the freshest herbs available.”
