Hemp growers send cannabis to educate politicians

Australian Broadcasting Corporation

AUSTRALIA — Two and a half tonnes of cannabis has been sent to Federal Parliament in a bid to educate politicians about the difference between industrial hemp and marijuana.

Philip Warner from Queensland’s Ecofibre Industries Limited says too many politicians do not know that industrial hemp is useless as a drug.

He says each politician has been sent a 15 kilogram bag of hemp mulch in an effort to change their thinking.

“Every time we write to the Federal Government they keep throwing back in our face this thing about hemp being associated with marijuana,” he said.

“They are not at all assisting in being able to develop a new industry for global consumption.

“Our concern is we’re going to miss the boat… it’s full steam ahead in China and Europe and we in Australia are floundering.”
