Hemp US Flags 50-Flags-for-50-States Project Update

Hemp US flags to be presented to Senator Hamilton and Rep. Cooley

On the morning of October 30th, 2001, Hemp US Flags, sponsored by Fuel and Fiber Company, will be presented to Arizona State Senator Darden Hamilton and Arizona House Representative Dean Cooley. Hemp bio diesel demonstration on California Capitol steps

The demonstration, performed by Ian Watson using his Old Rad Lab biodiesel processor, went flawlessly as hundreds of onlookers marveled that we could make fuel using hempseed oil just that easily. Ian proves the point by driving two late model VW TDI (Turbo Diesel Injected) automobiles exclusively on fuel he makes himself.

Hemp crop is a bit of a blow for Essex boys

According to the Home Office, the plant being grown is not marijuana but its less glamorous cousin industrial hemp. Some countries ban the cultivation of hemp for fear that it will be used to camouflage an illicit crop of marijuana, but the plant itself is not intoxicating.

Hemp farming unsuitable for Malawi

According to the Minister of Agriculture, Leornard Mangulama the crop is not suitable for this country because of the growing climate. It is true that we are in the meantime looking at a crop that can compete with tobacco as a major foreign export earner but hemp has been ruled out because of our climate, Mangulama said.

Hemp food ban hits here

On February 6, it will be illegal to sell or import hemp-containing foods, under a new rule of the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA). The foods are being banned for import or sale because they contain traces of THC, the primary active constituent of marijuana.

Despite high hopes, Manitobas hemp industry is not exactly smoking. In 2000, some 100 Manitoba farmers (down from 230 in 1999) seeded 7,200 acres of hemp, yielding 2,250 tonnes of hemp seed that is worth approximately $1.2 to $2.2 million.

Hemp in Body Shop products draws DEA interest

And while The Body Shops products are legal, the DEA in May indicated it is considering new regulations that will interpret existing drug laws to prohibit any product that allows THC to enter the body, no matter how small the amount, said Chad Little, spokesman for The Body Shop USA.
